Walking Festival takes a giant leap forward

The first Walking Festival to be held on St Helena will take place in May 2007 and a programme of events has been developed to ensure everyone, regardless of age or physical fitness can enjoy the myriad of walking opportunities the island offer.

The Festival begins on 3rd March with a leisurely stroll from Millennium Forest (after a local meal is served!) to Prosperous bay to see the spectacle of the spiders and night. Other walks will include a 3 hour coastal hike with spectacular scenery to Lots Wife Pond, a guided walk in the footsteps of Napoleon from Longwood House to The Nymph of the valley, and a full day walk across all districts of St Helena.

Pam Young, Director of Tourism said ‘St Helena is one of the most diverse and spectacular places on earth to walk, and our festival will celebrate the routes that so few people have ever been. Some are more challenging than others, but visitors will all be rewarded with possibly the best views, coastal and inland, to be found anywhere in the world.'

Bookings are recommended and prices range from £1.00 to £5.00 depending on the walk. The Festival ends on 8th May.
